At Cadouin, this stay takes students back in time, revealing all the secrets of medieval times. The theme of life in the Middle Ages is explored through three types of activities: workshops, heritage tours and hikes.
A medieval vacation awaits you at Cadouin. A stay in total immersion in the village: discover the seigniory and the castle. You’ll be immersed in the heart of manual workshops between two walks in the middle of nature. Visit the Castelnaud castle, the Bastide de Monpazier and the Cadouin Abbey: 3 magical monuments not to be missed. Continue the adventure in the forest to learn all about the fauna and flora.
Cadouin – Life in the Middle Ages
– 5 days / 4 nights + full board – €255/person
Day 1
Morning: Arrival at Cadouin.
Lunch at your expense.
Afternoon: Treasure hunt in the medieval town of Sarlat with all kinds of challenges.
Dinner and overnight at HI Cadouin youth hostel.
Day 2
Morning: Guided tour of Cadouin Abbey. Costumed students are the actors of the visit, playing the roles of the various key characters.
Packed lunch.
Afternoon: Sculpture workshop, again at Cadouin Abbey. Creation of a bas-relief on local limestone.
Dinner and overnight at HI Cadouin.
Day 3
Morning: Forest walk (3km loop around Cadouin).
Packed lunch.
Afternoon: Fresco workshop at Cadouin Abbey (bring smocks and old shirts).
Dinner at the youth hostel, followed by an evening of storytelling and medieval music.
Day 4
Morning: After a hearty breakfast at the youth hostel, we head for the Castelnaud castle (discover the site, the village, the fortified castle and its museum of medieval weaponry).
Packed lunch.
Afternoon: Visit to the Bastide of Monpazier a medieval “new town”.
Dinner and overnight at HI Cadouin.
Day 5
Morning: Calligraphy and illumination workshop at Cadouin Abbey. Each student creates a production using the tools used in the Middle Ages.
Packed lunch.
Afternoon: End of the day, return by bus.
